Zimbabwe CVR Fee Schedule 2026: Vehicle Registration, Ownership Transfer & More
The Zimbabwean Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) plays a crucial role in keeping the country’s roads safe and organised. Established under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, the CVR is tasked with maintaining a comprehensive national vehicle registry. This ensures all vehicles operating on Zimbabwean roads are properly registered, licensed and meet safety regulations.
The fees below are the current CVR service and registration fees under the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act [Chapter 13:14], set out in the Third Schedule, Part I, as substituted by Statutory Instrument 10 of 2026 with effect from 12 January 2026.

All CVR fees are set and payable in USD. The ZiG figure is an estimate at the prevailing exchange rate, for reference only.
What changed under SI 10 of 2026
SI 10 of 2026 cut several of the CVR’s biggest fees. First-time registration for a motor vehicle, motorcycle or trailer used to depend on vehicle type and engine size, up to US$500 for a motor vehicle over 1500cc; it is now a flat US$50 for all three. Changing ownership of a motor vehicle and buying new number plates used to cost up to US$515; it is now a flat US$95, regardless of engine size. Most other CVR fees, including plate replacements, personalised plates and duplicate documents, are unchanged.
Services Offered by the CVR
The CVR offers a wide range of services to motorists in Zimbabwe. Here’s a breakdown of the key areas:
- Vehicle Registration: This is the process of registering a new or previously unregistered vehicle with the CVR. It involves submitting necessary documentation, paying registration fees, and obtaining licence plates.
- Driver Licensing: The CVR issues driver’s licences to qualified individuals. This includes processing applications for new licences, renewals, and replacements.
- Vehicle Ownership Transfers: When you sell your car, the ownership needs to be transferred to the new owner at the CVR. This ensures proper documentation and avoids future complications.
- Vehicle Licensing: In addition to registration, vehicles require an annual road licence to operate legally on Zimbabwean roads. This is a separate, recurring fee collected by ZINARA rather than the CVR.
- Vehicle Information Services: The CVR maintains a central database of all registered vehicles. This allows you to obtain information about a specific vehicle, such as its ownership history or registration status.
