According Assistant Commissioner Nyathi the five robbers killed along Glenara road this week were part of the gang that robbed Chitungwiza money changers at Makoni shopping centre back on the 5th of February this year. The robbers were killed in a shoot out with the police and are believed to have been based in South Africa only venturing north when conducting their robbery missions.

On February 5 this year, the gang went to Makoni Shopping Centre, Chitungwiza, armed with pistols, an AK47 rifle and robbed unsuspecting complaints of US$19 000, $30 000, cellphones and a Toyota Allion vehicle, which was later found abandoned in Glen View.

Identities of the dead

Two of the are said to be South Africans and ZRP is waiting on Interpol to identify them. The other three are said to be Zimbabweans:

  • Godfrey Mupamhanga (27),
  • Prince Zakeo (25) and
  • Maxwell Stanley alias Dennis Mateta (25)

The ring leader identify as Taj managed to escape and police have said claims that he had been killed are wrong.
