Over the past number of weeks China has recorded a fall in new coronavirus infections. However imported infections brought in by people travelling into China have started rising sparking acts of racism and xenophobia among the Chinese population despite the Chinese government’s attempts to downplay these incidents.

Among the most affected are African populations who have faced many acts of discrimination in mainland China. In a jarring and sickening incident, Guangzhou authorities seem to have zeroed in on black people based on nothing else but the colour of their skin as a basis for self-isolation.

According to Sky News a local McDonald had strict instructions not to let black people into its premises:
