In an apparent u-turn, the Zimbabwean government is now saying that civil servants will receive their yearly bonuses as usual without the need to go through performance reviews. There had been a lot of anger and consternation among civil servants after the government had said that only civil servants who had done well in performance reviews would receive their yearly bonus. Now the government has clarified that only high-ranking civil servants would have to go through performance reviews before receiving their bonuses.

Only civil servants from the rank of Deputy Director and above will be paid their bonus based on performance, the rest will be paid as usual & in US$

Meanwhile earlier today the government of Zimbabwe announced that the minimum salary for civil servants was now US$150 which could be paid in either ZWL or USD. Most civil servants did not take the news well as they were used to getting salaries of around US$150 before the so-called second republic reintroduced the Zimbabwean dollar. The government and civil servants have been engaged in an ongoing salary dispute since around 2019 when Mthuli Ncube and the RBZ made it clear that the RTGS/ZWL was not on par with the USD.
