It seems there is a fire to put out popping up every second for the government as the economy burns. We are all now very familiar with the grim passport backlog that has seen people waiting for years for a passport. Now it seems we have a licence backlog too.

According to reports by Zimlive, only about 48 licences are being made. That tallies up to about 1 450 licences being made per month. Meanwhile about 9 000 people are passing their driving tests every month.

Apparently licences are being produced using antiquated technology and machines that relies on manual processing. The department is mulling switching to a more modern way of doing things but that would require, you guessed it, foreign currency which is in short supply.

Zimbabwe already has a number plate backlog.
