According to the city’s Health Department, Harare City Council medical facilities are running low of essential medicine. This is especially worrying given the fact that there has been reports of another cholera outbreak.

The Harare Health depart has however said that the current number of cholera cases is still manageable:

Our stocking levels are not satisfactory to be able to deal with and manage waterborne disease outbreaks. We have received medicines from Natpharm, but these are not covering all our needs.

The Director of health services, Prosper Chonzi, confirmed this:

There is currently no cholera outbreak in Harare. The last cholera outbreak in Harare ended in mid-November 2018. We are responding to all rumours promptly and suspected cases reported last week were cholera negative.

Prosper Chonzi
