Yesterday startling revelations were made by United Millers before the Parliamentary Portfolio on Agriculture. Some millers were exporting maize/roller meal to countries such as the DRC even though Zimbabweans were starving. Now more revelations and allegations are being made with names popping up.
Law makers were told that some of Zimbabwe’s subsidised maize is being ferried by trucks to the DRC were the maize is then sold. According to these reports this corrupt operation is being facilitated/led by Lawrence Jasi who is a senior executive at GMB.
The trucks being used are those that ply the region. They come from DRC carrying copper, pass through Zimbabwe on their way to South Africa and then offload the copper. On their way back they are loaded with the illicit maize and proceed back to the DRC.
