The Ministry of health has been essentially rudderless for a while now. They do not have a minister or permanent secretary even as the country fights the coronavirus pandemic. There has been a deafening lack of strategy from the government apart from introducing a curfew and banning people from the CBD. Now the government has announced the appointment of Jasper Chimedza as the perment health secretary.

His appointment has drawn mixed feelings from members of the public. Most were concerned by what they deemed the militarisation of government since Mr Chimedza appears to be an active member of the military. A few others lauded his appointment claiming members of the military have discipline. This was countered by critics who pointed out that despite having former personnel in various parts of government and public sector institution, Zimbabwe does not seem to have benefited from their appointment
