It’s not just ZESA, Southern Africa in general is facing a power crisis. Demand is increasing at a faster rate than investment in power generating projects. Even the investment in renewable energy is not enough to meet the rising demand. Eskom, South Africa’s version of ZESA,has introduced loadshedding that is unlikely to go away soon in response. Starting 1 April they will also be hiking tariffs.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has approved an Eskom electricity increase of 15.63% for this year.

For those clients planning to purchase a bit more electricity at the current lower rate before the increase, we look forward to facilitating your saving. Please note that we can only guarantee tokens at the current rate for purchases made before 8 p.m. on the 31st of March 2021.

Please note that this increase is for Eskom direct clients only. All other municipal clients can expect a similar increase from their respective municipalities on 01 July 2021. (If you are not sure if you are a direct Eskom client, kindly check your previous purchase slip. It will either reflect Eskom or the name of your municipality.) The increase on 01 April only applies to Eskom clients.

Municipal clients who feel that they want to buy a little bit more in the next few months before their price increase takes effect on 01 July, can easily do so through Prepaid24. We would, however, recommend that you take your current consumption and municipal tariff structure into account before doing so.
