When it comes to carbonated drinks in Zimbabwe there are just currently two major players: Varum who are in charge of the Pepsi, Mirinda, Mountain Dew and related brands and Delta who are in charge of the Coca-cola brands. There are other smaller players such as Twist but their market share is quite small. Leading sweets maker, Arenel plans to change that says one Twitter user who is privy to the company’s plans.

BULAWAYO headquartered and diversified food processor, Arenel will next month install a US$750 000 carbonated drink manufacturing plant with the investment expected to create more than 100 additional jobs at the company.

Arenel already makes drinks

If you look carefully in supermarket fridges you will notice that this will by no means, Arenal’s first foray into the drink market. There already sell 500ml pure fruit bottles of various flavours. In fact, these drinks are already popular with shoppers due to their budget-friendly prices. Perhaps Arenel were encouraged by this success and want to double-down.
