There has been an increase in instances of people losing their money to card cloners. It is very easy to clone a magnetic strip card. Chip cards have added security features crafted to thwart the efforts of card cloners.

Zimbabweans have been forced to use electronic funds (RTGS) in recent years due to a cash crisis that has lasted for years with no end in site.
