The National Commercial Employers Association of Zimbabwe (NCEAZ) has set the minimum recommended wage to US$150 starting 1 January 2023. This new wage rate applies to all employers and employers who are deemed to be in the commercial sector. While the wages are in US dollars, employers are free to pay the wages using the prevailing ZWL auction rate of the first Tuesday of each month. For January wages will be determined using the upcoming Auction as there was no auction this week.

It should be noted that this is a recommended rate for all employers who fall under the purview of the NCEAZ. Employers are being encouraged rather than commanded to adopt these payment rates. The was forced to make a recommendation National Commercial Employers Association of Zimbabwe (NCEAZ)’ since no Collective Bargaining has been taking place owing to Union squabbles. With high unemployment in Zimbabwe, the power of unions and workers has been greatly eroded. Most employers often exploit their workers and underpay them. The government, the largest employer has also been accused of paying a wage well below the standard of living although it refutes this.
