It seems ZERA has just approved another tariff hike for the Zimbababwe Electricity Transmission and Distrubution Company (ZETDC), the division of ZESA that provides electricity to final consumers.

When will the tariffs start to apply?

According to the approval given by ZERA, the tariffs are coming into effect immediately.

What has changed?

Well if you look at the old tariff structure you might be tempted into thinking nothing has changed. But look closely at the old structure:

  • First 50 units are now $0.49 per unit
  • Next 150 units now 1.08 per unit
  • After 200 units have been consumed all other units will now cost $4.61 per unit

Yes that’s right, they have added a new band 201-300 units which is now going for a discounted $2.94 per unit instead of the flat $4.61.
