We will never forget Starlink. It has brought us this bountiful fiesta of reasonably priced internet.
Bought the sim yesterday and the speeds have been dismal. I have a 5G capable device and no matter how much you crank it up, these smartbiz lines won’t go into 5G. Thought it was my location but tried in different places including the very heart of Harare CBD but no. What’s even more interesting is that the ordinary buddie line will easily go into 5G and move with greater speeds than this smartbiz.
In actual fact, you’ll not even get consistent 4G service. Most of the times it switches down to 3G and even 2G!!
I’ve tried calling customer support hoping for a resolution but have been tossed around since yesterday. Even fed empty promises that they’ll give feedback in 24 hours but they didn’t. I’m beyond disappointed given I’d cancelled my usual ZOL subscription to opt for this.
If they want to compete with Starlink this is no way to introduce their “competitive package.” And I’m mostly annoyed by the false advertising saying they’ll give you 5G service when the line doesn’t even allow you to switch to 5G.
Should my challenge be resolved and I experience better service then I’ll certainly come back here with an additional comment giving an update but until then I give Smartbiz a rating of 1 out of 5. It is my hope they really improve on this otherwise 1) most people won’t renew their subscriptions 2) we will welcome Starlink and any other alternative with open hands.
