One of Zimbabwe’s iconic wholesalers has thrown in the towel and will shut its doors tomorrow (Friday). They have cited the continously deteriorating economy as the reason for shutting down. The sad thing is that more businesses will probably follow suit as the government stubbornily continues to come up with measures that are hurting businesses.
The news of Bhadella’s planned shutdown was announced by Acie Lumumba, a colourful political social media user.
Just recieved this ??♂️? Hello everyone
End of an era. Bhadella Wholesalers are closing down this Friday January 24,. Sadly they are forced to close down with immediate effect due to the economic situation. They have been in operation for 88 years.
And the government marches on
This week the Supreme Court made a shock ruling that will see businesses lose up to 2 200% of their debtors value and get paid peanuts on the dollar. This is just the latest hurdle that businesses have had to contend with.
There is the 2% tax, 18 hour powercuts that impact operations, the drought, fuel shortages, shortages of raw materials, foreign currency shortages … The list goes on. Just like the few months before 2008 the government is oblivious just as businesses are in mortal danger of closing leaving consumers stranded.
