Prices are typical trading ranges from ground surveys at Mbare Musika and can vary by trader, season and how much you buy.
How to read these prices
- Prices are shown as a range because traders at Mbare negotiate — what you pay depends on the trader, the time of day, and how much you’re buying.
- Buying in bulk (a full sack, sasseka or bucket rather than a punnet or pocket) is usually cheaper per kilogram.
- Most traders prefer cash — USD notes if you have them, ZiG notes if you don’t. Card and mobile money are far less common here than in supermarkets.
- An item without a price wasn’t confirmed in the latest survey, not necessarily unavailable — ask around, it may just be a gap in this round of data collection.
Prices are updated periodically as new ground surveys come in, rather than on a fixed schedule, so a gap of a few weeks or months between updates is normal for a slow-moving item.
