Historical Exchange Rates

Use this page to look up the exchange rate that applied on any past date back to October 2018 — whether that’s today’s ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold) rate, the earlier Willing-Buyer-Willing-Seller ZWL$ rate, or the original foreign currency auction rate. Pick a date below and we’ll show you the official rate for that era, plus the informal-sector range and cash rate recorded that day.

Notes on Our Historical Rates

  • Rates are recorded once for each date and never change afterwards, so a historical lookup always shows what applied on the day, not a later correction.
  • If we have no record for the exact date you pick, we show the closest earlier date we do have — this usually happens over weekends or public holidays when rates aren’t published.
  • Zimbabwe’s official exchange mechanism has changed several times — the foreign currency auction (2019–2023), the Willing-Buyer-Willing-Seller rate (2023–2024), and ZiG (April 2024–present). We detect and label the right one automatically for whichever date you pick.
  • Our records go back to 6 October 2018, the earliest date we have reliable rate data for.
  • Looking for today’s rate instead? Visit our official and unofficial market exchange rates page for the latest figures, updated throughout the day.
