It’s official, Harare is now the country’s epicentre to the global coronavirus pandemic as the virus threatens to spiral out of control. Multiple businesses have recorded a case including critical businesses such as ZUPCO, banks and other government entities. Meanwhile hospitals have been crippled by shortages of PPE, strikes by both senior doctors and nurses as well as a general decline in moral with some being forced to temporarily close as scores of health workers tested positive.

Deaths and cases continue to rise

By the night of 2 August the country had recorded 70 deaths and a cumulative total of 3 921 case. The number of cases continues to rise at an exponential rate with the country taking several months to reach 1 000 cases. It took under a month to speed past the 2 000 mark and now only weeks later the number of cases is flirting with the 4 000 mark. To earn the crown of epicentre, Harare recorded 100 new cases yesterday.
