Important update

Econet has since raised it’s tariffs to $0.96 per minute which now match and exceed those of Telecel and NetOne.

Original story begins here

Econet is now the cheapest network when it comes to making voice calls. Well, technically NetOne is the cheapest, but the largest government-owned network operator is yet to announce its latest tariff hike.

Anyway back to Telecel and Econet. Both operators have announced their own price hikes and when it comes to voice calls Econet is the winner no matter how you look at it.

DescriptionEconetTelecel
Calls To Numbers on the same network/ minute$0.834$0.96
Calls to numbers on other networks$0.834$0.82
Data per MB (off bundle charges)$0.2428$0.19
SMS per message$0.2428$0.24

Takeaways

  • When it comes to voice calls Econet is a whole 10+ cents cheaper. In fact, as things stand it’s cheaper to call
  • For SMS and data ( out of bundle browsing) Telecel is still the cheapest of the two. That cheap price comes with a caveat. The Telecel Network is dominated by 3G and 2G which means slow speeds.
